Eshaan Chanda2023-2024 State President “Your Network is your Net Worth.”This is a saying that I truly believe in and hold in high regard. A mentor of mine once told me that my connections and friendships will take me further than I could ever go by myself. He told me that we are only as strong as those around us, so when we surround ourselves with those who push us to be better, we will automatically be better as well. In today's ever changing dynamic and interconnected world, the importance of friendships and connections is greater than ever, and the way we make more and more connections is through networking. More than just exchange of business cards or LinkedIn connections, networking is a fundamental building block of personal and professional growth. It goes beyond expanding your contact list; it's about building meaningful relationships with those you meet and resonate with. For our networking to truly be impactful, we must embrace diversity in connections by engaging with people of all types of personalities, backgrounds, and experiences. Being a part of DECA provides you exposure to all types of people from all over the world which serves as the perfect opportunity to connect with the future leaders of the world. Whether it is through platforms like Instagram, or in-person meetings, connecting with DECA members, officers, and chapters will truly uplift your network. Networking is about building connections with those beyond the confines of immediate circles, offering a gateway to fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a variety of experiences. Regardless of who you are, looking to understand perspectives of all types of people serves as an invaluable strength propelling you forward in both your personal and professional endeavors. One of the key aspects of effective networking is the willingness to connect with individuals and take the first step to go interact with them, whether that is online or in-person. While it's natural to gravitate towards those who share similar backgrounds, breaking free from these comfort zones is where the true power lies. It is up to each and every one of us to take the initiative to go and build our network. Connecting with diverse personalities opens doors to unique ways of thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Furthermore, understanding diverse personalities fosters adaptability in professional settings. Whether leading a team or collaborating on a project, a fundamental understanding of different personalities allows you to contribute at a greater capacity due to your compatibility, relatability, and effective project navigation. Additionally, you never know how your network will benefit you in the future. Oftentimes, your connections can not only help bring you business and job opportunities, but can help propel you forward as a professional and an individual. Beyond professional advantages, networking and talking to people allows you to develop strong interpersonal skills, challenging you to adapt your communication style. Connecting with people of different backgrounds and personalities makes you a more effective communicator, contributing to improved relationship-building and collaboration. The strength of networking lies in the diversity of connections, not just their quantity. Embracing a range of personalities is a strategic investment in personal and professional development. It's about creating a network that is as vibrant and diverse as the world we live in – a community that inspires, challenges, and supports you on your journey of growth. Categories
